Adaptive Queue Management Scheme for Flexible Dual TCP/UDP Streaming Protocol

چکیده
Flexible Dual-TCP/UDP Streaming Protocol (FDSP) is a new method for streaming H.264-encoded High-definition (HD) video over wireless networks. FDSP streaming is done in sequential video segments or chunks called substreams. In FDSP, substream lengths are used to control the amount of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) data that needs to be sent prior to the playback of that substream. To avoid frequent rebuffering, TCP packets of the next substream are overlapped with the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) packets of the current substream. The TCP threshold parameter determines when to overlap new TCP packets with the current UDP stream. This paper analyzes the TCP threshold parameter in the context of FDSP. Our results show that user Quality of Experience (QoE) can be enhanced by adaptive adjusting of the TCP threshold using the additiveincrease/multiplicative-decrease (AIMD) algorithm based on the UDP packet loss rate and the TCP rebuffering. Adaptive Bitstream Prioritization for Dual TCP/UDP Streaming of HD Video
Flexible Dual-TCP/UDP Streaming Protocol with Bitstream Prioritization (FDSP-BP) is a new method for streaming H.264-encoded High-definition (HD) video over wireless networks. This paper presents a novel technique to adaptively modify the Bitstream prioritization (BP) parameter based on network conditions. This technique selects the maximum BP value that satisfies the Transmission Control Proto...
متن کاملExperimental Study of Low-Latency HD VoD Streaming Flexible Dual TCP-UDP Streaming Protocol
The Flexible Dual TCP-UDP Protocol (FDSP) combines the reliability of TCP with the low latency characteristics of UDP. FDSP delivers the more critical parts of the video data via TCP and the rest via UDP. Bitstream Prioritization (BP) is a sliding scale that is used to determine the amount of TCP data that is to be sent. BP can be adjusted according to the level of network congestion. FDSP-base...

The Adaptive RED proposed by Feng et al . [5] is shown to have small packet delay and queue length variation for long-life TCP traffic such as FTP connection with a large file size. However, a great portion of Internet traffic is shortlife web and UDP traffic. Most web traffic has a small file size and its TCP session is mainly operated in the slow start phase with a small congestion window siz...

Today’s streaming applications typically use TCP or UDP to transmit media over the Internet. However, streaming over UDP is problematic due to firewalls that restrict UDP penetration and because of the potential for excessive congestion induced by unresponsive UDP flows. Streaming over TCP is also troublesome because media scaling is difficult given current TCP’s application programming interfa...
متن کاملThe Effects of Inter-packet Spacing on the Delivery of Multimedia Content
Streaming multimedia content with UDP has become increasingly popular over distributed systems such as the Internet. However, because UDP does not possess any congestion-control mechanism and most best-effort traffic is served by the congestion-controlled TCP, UDP flows steal bandwidth from TCP to the point that TCP flows can starve for network resources. Furthermore, such applications may caus...
